Minutes ago, the DC City Council passed Marriage Equality by a vote of 11-2. Mayor Fenty has promised to sign the bill, and the ceremony for the signing is expected to take place Thursday.
DC already recognized same-sex marriages performed out of state, which is why my wife and I plan to buy a place in DC and move there after our next overseas assignment. This just makes it all the sweeter.
You can read more about it in the City Paper here.

ok...another state.
Great news and good luck with the house-hunting! I've been eagerly monitoring this development along with the Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act. Both will go a long way towards not only providing the long overdue support to Foreign Service families such as yours but also to making a FS career more attainable for many aspiring FSOs.
I agree completely. DPBO, along with the changes instituted by Secretary Clinton earlier this year, will make the lives of LGBT Foreign Service families much better! And hopefully will encourage more LGBT folks to join the service!
